We’re breaking form slightly today; as a London-based company it is impossible to ignore the current events. So in this blog post we present the videos and articles which have caught our attention and moved us in the last 48 hours.- Young people in Harringey express their fears for the future of gang culture following the closure of 13 youth clubs. The film closes with an ominous prediction from one of its young, male interviewees: ‘There will be riots.’ Extraordinarily prescient video from the Guardian published on 31 July (six days before the riots began in Tottenham).
- Refreshingly, this article explains how twitter is being used in the clean-up
- ITN News video asks ‘who’s in charge’ as senior politicians come home from holidays and the Met are still without full leadership following hacking scandal resignations.
- Partner of Mark Duggan condemns violence and protests in this video.
- Two Huffington Post UK videos with interviews with residents and footage of looting.
With tonight’s 10,00 extra police officers, London will be hoping for some limitation to future damage and violence. Whilst the clean-up and extra police may help cover up some of the destruction done to London’s streets, the government will no doubt be examining the deeper underlying causes which led to such unprecedented scenes in the first place.
